EFK Fire Dragon – Dual Action Recoil Spring – Failure!

The spring is supposed to be one unit, not three separate pieces.  This is what I found when field stripped the G22 this evening.

Yeah, look at that shit.

This is NOT good.  That spring was $70.

The last I saw, the spring was one piece and I’d installed it in the gun as soon as I received it.  The end screw apparently came off, probably during the last range visit back in January.

I’m glad I didn’t depend on this gun with my life.

I’ve sent EFK the following notification:

This is regarding Order ID 00000.
I bought a dual action recoil spring from you for me Glock 22 back in January.
The last time I had fired it was on 1/31.  Today, I did a field strip of my gun.  I found that the dual action spring came out in 3 pieces.  That’s funny but concerning because last I remember handling it was when I put it in the gun…it was one piece and it hasn’t been out of the gun until today.  There’s a piece missing…the screw that goes on the end.  I’m assuming it went flying off at the range the last time I shot it.
Yeah, this needs to be fixed ASAP.  Spending almost $70 for a spring for it to fail like this…that’s horrible.
I’m looking for some feedback from you.  I’m either looking for a replacement with a guarantee that the replacement won’t fail or a refund.

I’m not sure what their response will be.  I imagine they’ll want me to ship it back to them.  I also imagine they’ll send me another.  I’m not even sure I want another one, as I’ve no confidence that the  the replacement will not also fail.

We’ll see how this plays out.

EFK Recoil Spring/Rod Assembly Has Arrived

UPDATE (5/5/2017): had an issue with the recoil spring (it deconstructed itself) and the end screw has disappeared.  Awaiting word from EFK on if they’re going to send me another one.

So, I had a present arrive in my mailbox today, the EFK recoil spring assembly for my newly acquired Glock 22 Gen 3 handgun.

I was surprised, as the shipping info had stated that the package would arrive 17 Jan.  It was actually 2-day shipping.

The OEM spring that I have is worn…it almost falls off of the barrel link on it’s own.  It barely takes any effort to get it on.  The spring has lost its tensioning, I believe, but I’ve never owned a Gen 3 Glock, so I don’t know if that is normal.  All I know is that it barely passes the recoil spring test.

I pulled out the OEM spring and put in the EFK spring assembly.  It fits as I feel the OEM should, with a bit of effort.

The big deal is that the spring is stiff enough to where I’m having difficulty racking it back.  I can rack it but if I need to lock the slide back with the slide lever, it takes quite an effort, especially the more I try it.

I hope it breaks in.  If not, I might have to go back to OEM.

That’s another thing I need to try.  I need to get an OEM spring to see how different it is than the one that came with this gun.  OEM may be fine for me.  I just need to see if I can find a store that has them locally…getting tired of having things shipped to me (shipping and the pain of waiting for the parts to arrive is annoying).

The real reason I bought the EFK spring is to see if it lessens recoil significantly.  I’ve the feeling it will, but at the cost of being ultra stiff to the point where the gun is difficult to rack back.

Maybe I can visit the range this weekend to give it a test (or maybe I should wait to get the OEM spring and test them both in one session).

Bersa Thunder 380 Plus Listings; Metro Arm 1911 Woes

I’ve had several people reach out to me asking about where to find good-priced Bersa Thunder 380 Plus models.  Here are some:

All of those are listed on Gun Broker.  There were at least 7-10 of them listed, but most were over-priced.  I only listed those that were under MSRP, but I did list the Combat Plus because many people are asking where to find those models and supply is scarce.

Also, a few weeks ago, I ended up taking my Metro Arms 1911 (the American Classic Commander, specifically) and my Sig SP2022 9mm to the local range.

I also ended up putting 50 rounds of American Eagle 124-grain through my current carry gun, the Grand Power P11, just to test to see if it was still having issues returning to battery (it ate all 50 rounds without issue).  I’m currently at 582 total rounds through that gun.

The SP2022 ate 60 rounds without issue.  That handgun is fantastic and is extremely easy to shoot accurately.  I’m at 279 rounds through the barrel with NO issue whatsoever.

The Metro Arms has been problematic.  I shot 48 rounds through this gun this session and had many failures to feed.  In fact, when I go through my range log, This gun has a history of failing.  It isn’t the mags that are causing the issue (it happens with all three mags and two of them are new and from Wilson Combat).  I actually searched and found that this is more than likely an extractor issue.  I checked and found it was too loose.  I tightened it up and now need to revisit the range to test to see if that helps.  If it doesn’t, I’m going to buy a new recoil spring and extractor.  That should fix the issue.  Another thing of note is that the feed ramp has some major abrasions from the last range visit when I shot Tula through it…it did NOT like Tula and I’d made a note of it (and the feed ramp) in my range log.  I shouldn’t need to polish the ramp with so little ammo through the gun, especially since the ramp had a mirror finish when I received the gun.  The gun only has 188 rounds through the gun.

As well, the point of impact is not hitting where I’m aiming (I’m aiming for the red with the front sight covering the X.  One thing I neglected to check was my trigger finger placement and how I was actuating the trigger.

I may visit the range tonight just to test the 1911.

I still haven’t shot my AR-15 yet, either.  I’m saving that for Father’s Day.  ðŸ™‚
