New SD Ammo Ordered

I’m almost out of my primary SD ammo – Federal Hydra-Shok 124-gr. I didn’t think I’d need more so soon, but I’m now carrying 2 mags (one in the gun, and one as a hot spare), which is something I didn’t plan for when I bought the last batch of SD ammo.

I didn’t really need to order more, as I found (after I ordered more) that I’d misplaced the Speer Gold Dot 124-gr ammo. It was stashed in back of my gun safe.

So, I ordered, from Target USA again, a box of 50 Speer Gold Dot 124-gr JHP rounds. I also tried to odrer another 50-round box of Federal Hydra-Shok, but Target USA is out of stock (as well as all other outlets), so I ordered a 50-round box of Federal Premium HST 124-gr JHP this go-around.

I suppose I can shoot some of the Speer from the Prodigy DS Compact (in preparation for carrying it) sometime soon.

New SD Ammo Ordered

I bought some SD ammo thru Target Sports USA.

When I went to the range last week, I shot a box of Federal Hydra-Shok 124-gr JHP and the gun (the Bul Armory SAS II UL) ate it without issue, so I ordered a box of 50 of P9HS1G1.

Now, I shot a magazine of Hydra-Shok 124-gr and the ammo functioned, but I didn’t want to buy another box from Cabelas, as their prices aren’t the best.

I also bought a 50-round box of Speer Gold Dot 124-gr JHP, as I’ve never shot 9mm of that brand before and it is a proven round (lots of LE usage).

Both boxes were under $35 and is far cheaper than what I can find at Cabelas (they don’t typically sell SD ammo in boxes of 50).

I’ll give the Speer Gold Dots a spin with the SAS II UL and let you all know how well they do.

UPDATE (5/10/2025): I guess I lied. I shot the Speer Gold Dots and also didn’t make a note of it in my range notes spreadsheet. I don’t even remember when I shot that ammo and I’m trying to ensure I don’t have it stashed somewhere.

UPDATE 2 (5/10/2025): I found the Speer ammo. It was untouched and in my safe (I’ve no idea why). And I just ordered another 50-round box of it, along with a 50-round box of Federal Premium HST, from Target USA…they had no Federal Hydra-Shok in stock.
