I Changed the XP Comp’s Recoil Spring to 10-lb!

The last two range visits, I’ve been shooting my XP Comp 2011, attempting to test/review from an owner standpoint.

I’ve been shooting steel-cased ammo lately, specifically Magtech 115-gr FMJ. My Alpha Foxtrot Attila just eats up that ammo, without complaint. Both of my Fusion Firearms 2011s hate that ammo, though. I’ve both the XP Pro and XP Comp. While they eat will shoot the ammo, they ocassionally will not fully go back into battery (sometimes, but not always).s

The last range visit, I actually anticipated the issue and bought some brass-cased Federal 115-gr FMJ. I shot much of that ammo through both XPs, without issue (50 rounds of it). Whenever I’d swap back to the Magtech (purposely attempting to determine if it was an ammo issue), the failures would occur, so I know this is due to the ammo.

Now, this particular make/model of ammo is using polished steel casings, so it’s not the case coating that’s the issue. I think the ammo is slightly underpowered – most steel-cased ammo is cheaply made.

A while back, I bought a spring kit from Fusion Firearms. That kit comes with 7-, 9-, 10-, and 13-lb springs. The XP Comp comes with an 8-lb spring. As I didn’t think the 9-lb spring would cure the issue, I opted to install the 10-lb spring instead.

I also conducted research and the above is a satisfactory solution. Alternative solutions would be to switch to a better ammo type (brass cased or a make/model with a known good reliability history).

I do not blame the ammo as the cause of this issue, as most guns with comps will have light sprints and this is a known thing with the XP Comp. As well, the XP Pro has light springs from the factory, so that’s why it was exhibiting the same issue.

My fix will hopefully resolve the issue (at least with the XP Comp.

While I love Magtech ammo, I might need to switch to something with a bit more power, at least until the XP reaches 1000 rounds. I may go back to Winchester White Box, as it has power.

I’ve Some Goodies On the Way To Me!

I ordered a new holster to accommodate the new weapon-mounted light, as well as several more mags for the Kuna.

It’s another QVO More Discreet IWB holster, but without a fabric print. I’ll be using this as an AIWB holster.

This holster is black kydex with the same additional options as my first one – metal wing, and two belt clips, with the holster keying off of an Olight PL.

I’ll have to add velcro so that I can attach a wedge to it. This may be the time to use my Masterminds Tactics pillow wedge. Or, I can order more of their foam wedges (which I’m currently using). Another choice would be to just pull that foam wedge from my current holster so that I can use it on the new holster.

So this Saturday, I’ll add the new light to the Attila and begin using the new holster, after adding a wedge to the holster.

Also on the way are three ProMag magazines for my Kuna. ProMags for Kunas have a good reputation (from what I’ve heard/seen). These were cheaper than buying three more Kuna magazines. They were $16 each.

I plan to visit the range this Friday (tomorrow) and Saturday, I’ll probably shoot the Kuna tomorrow, to test the new mags. As always, I shoot my CC gun when I visit the range, even if it’s only a mag or two.

UPDATE (7/26/2026): The holster and extra magazines arrived on Friday. For the holster, I installed velcro so that I could continue to use my foam wedge that I was using with the previous QVO holster. This new holster appears to have better fitment. I’m unsure why, because it’s the same holster, although it’s dependent upon an entirely different weapon light. As well, this meant I had to finally install the Osight PL, which I did. The whole setup looks badass. I’m now wondering if I should’ve added fabric print to it. Regarding the ProMag mags – I was able to test one and it shot all 30 rounds without issue. It inserts, shoots, and extracts from the gun without issue. I did compare one with my OEM Kuna mags and the ProMags do not have metal feed lips. The mag tube feels more robust, though, but I’ll have to watch the feed lips. I also think I may order a mag loader for the Kuna, because the mags are somewhat tight and loading 30 round mags without a loader SUCKS!

The Alpha Foxtrot Attila Now Has Over 1000 Rounds – Video Posted

This video details my ownership experience with the gun thus far.

1082 rounds have been shot out of the gun. There have been no feed/extract issues. There have been no reliability issues whatsoever.

As well, due to YouTube being extremely tyrannical, I’ve taken extra steps to ensure my videos are compliant with their terms of service. Because of that, there’s a banner being depicted when embedding the video into this blog post. This is something I can’t avoid. Apologies.

Below is the Rumble link. Although I’d rather use Rumble (to counter YouTube tyranny), YouTube gets far more traffic. I’ve had little success in getting my Rumble-posted videos to gain traction.

I Decided To Purchase The Olight PL-X Tactical Light!

I bought an Olight PL-X and it arrived yesterday.

The pink elephant in the room: Yes, this is a Chinese brand. No, I’ve no problem purchasing Chinese merchandise.

The outstanding packaging surprised me. The instructions are good, too.

I love the fact that it’s rechargeable (the Streamlight TLR-7X is also rechargeable).

I was able to quickly install it on my Springfield Armory Prodigy DS Compact. I haven’t yet tried to install it on my Alpha Foxtrot Attila, as I’m still awaiting for the new holster to be built (it will accommodate the PL-X light).

The light is extremely bright and can be easily configured and managed.

It’s build quality feels more expensive (by a lot) than the TLR-7X. It is rock solid and has heft.

I mainly was curious about the PL-X because I hate the little c-clips that Streamlight uses as retaining clips. They’re very small and difficult to manage. I’ve already lost one and the light only comes with two of them. Yes, I can order more from Streamlight, but I’d have to buy an $18 pack of other equipment to get them. Yes, I can probably go to Ace Hardware to obtain some, but I’m not going to be chasing down such small parts just for the sake of a tactical light. I’d rather find a new light that doesn’t have such issues.

As with everything I buy, I’ll report if I’ve any issues with the light.

I Ordered A Second QVO Tactical “More Discreet” IWB Holster

Yes, I ordered a second holster from QVO Tactical.

Why? I want to try the Olight PL-X weapon-mounted light and my current More Discreet holster will only accommodate the Streamlight TLR-7X.

This particular holster is barebones. Well, not really…as with the first holster, I opted for the metal wing and dual plastic clips, but I didn’t opt for an overlay and also opted to keep the black kydex.

I tried to cut costs, so the holster is somewhat minimal (at $88, with the options I chose).

I also ordered an Olight PL-X – it should arrive tomorrow.
