So Where’s that Sic Semper Tyrannis, Virginia…

I’m not sure if you all have been reading about Virginia’s recent election results, but it’s sucking here, to the point that I’m wondering if I should just move all my things to NC (I’ve family there).

We’ve been planning on an out of state move, but we’ve been in the planning stages the past 3-4 years…I’m not sure when it’s going to happen. It needs to happen soon.

The biggest changes are that in July 2026, we’ll no longer be able to purchase “assault weapons”, standard capacity mags, and will probably be required to submit for purchase permits (WTF) to buy firearms. As well, standard capacity mags are not grandfathered, meaning that you can’t keep those mags, even if you’ve had them 10+ years. If you’re caught with them, you could face up to a year of jail time and will be charged with a Class I misdemeanor, with associated penalties.

And, of course, LEs have cut-outs (meaning they’re exempt).

Right now, there are so many statutes that were submitted that I’m having a difficult time keeping up with them.

As well, state reciprocity will be adversely affected (WTF).

Nothing is solid yet, but I’ve no doubt that most of the changes will stick.

The arguments I continue to see from gun folks are that no one voted and that VA deserves what is occurring. I call bullshit on that. VA is always had the same issues that other states with large metropolitan areas have – northern VA has a pretty massive population and is pretty much outvoting the rest of the state localities. It’s not the fact that no one voted, but that we were outvoted.

Additionally, many folks have have their heads in the sand regarding this. There was the mentality that “that won’t happen here.” Some folks aren’t even aware that these laws are being proposed.

Also, it didn’t help that the Republican clowns in the state upset EVERYONE, including their own constituents. They had the majority the past few years and went power crazy, negating abortion rights, neutering LGBT-ABCDEFG rights, not legalizing marijuana, and doing shit like being under Trump’s umbrella. I’m not a one-issue voter and didn’t agree with a lot of what Republicans did. I’m neither a Republican or Democrat.

And there’s that too…the infighting amongst gun folks. Some folks are daring others to adopt the “come and take it” attitude but won’t do it themselves. Some folks are suggesting that everyone “don’t comply”. Yeah, fuck that. I need to stay clearable. These gun folks expect everyone to protest, ala Jan 6…yeah, fuck that. Apparently, the Lobby Day turnout wasn’t so good in 2026. Maybe because most folks are trying to not participate in something that could turn ugly? Some of those folks will ask, “so, what have you done for the gun community?” Plenty enough. I advocate via social media. I help fellow gun owners, both old and new. I donate to gun-specific causes. I buy from local gun businesses.

So now, I’m trying to determine what I immediately need to buy before prices skyrocket and before things sell out.

I’m a 2011 guy and have been carrying them a few years now. As 2011 mags are expensive and 10 round 2011 mags are difficult to find (and I’m not going to neuter/damage any of my standard capacity mags), I’m probably going to just switch to a Glock 48/43X for now. IMO, it doesn’t make sense to carry 10 round mags for 2011s. Why Glock 48/43X? Because I’ve one 1911 that will use G48 mags. Also, the G48 has been on my list a while now…I may as well buy it soon.

I’ve 6 G48 mags on the way to me now.

I’ll also be buying 10 round AR-15 and AK mags (10 for each platform, for now).

I’ll be packing up all my mags that are over 10 rounds and will be storing them at my parents’ home in NC. I’ll keep my “assault weapons” with me since they’re grandfathering them, but I won’t be able to shoot my AK-V, as there are no 10 round mags for that gun and I’m not going to neuter the mags I currently have.

I’m tempted to just buy a bunch of “assault weapons” before the ban kicks in, just to spite the state.

But, at least there’s no more UBC, right?? RIGHT??

If you all aren’t already donating to grass roots advocacy orgs that help fight shit like this, I highly recommend that you reconsider. The VCDL is the primary org to donate to, although the FPC and GOA are also alternatives. Hell, I’m donating to all three.

1911 2011 Alpha Foxtrot Bul Armory Springfield Armory

So, What’s Next?

I’ve been thinking on what my next handgun should be.

A listing:

  • Dan Wesson (CZ) DWX (full sized)
  • Cosaint COS21
  • Bul Armory Tac 5″ or Tac Pro 5″
  • Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 5″ or Spatha 5″
  • Stealth Arms Platypus
  • Springfield Armory 1911 DS (Prodigy) 5″
  • GP Arms Patriot 4.8″ or Forza 3.10″

My budget is between $1000 and $2000.

What I really want is something I don’t already have, configuration-wise. I do not have a 5″ 1911 that is chambered in 9mm. I’d prefer it to be double-stacked. I’d prefer it to not be over $2000. I do not want another cheap 2011, either – that includes any Tisas, MAC, LFA, or Witness…basically, nothing under $1000.

The Dan Wesson DWX is something that I’m curious about Dan Wesson makes great 1911s and this is apparently a blend of CZ and 1911. They’ve an MSRP of $1999 and can be found as low as $1700, so they’re within the budget. DWXs are a bit different and I love the unique guns. The con of this gun is that they are not optics-ready, which is a bit crazy considering that it costs that much and modern guns are usually cut for an optic.

I was thinking Cosaint COS21 (it’s their 5″ duty gun) but that’s rather expensive, starting at $2600! The smaller variants are $100 and $200 less (starting at $2500 for the Commander and $2400 for the Officer variants). If I’m going to spend that much money, it’ll be on a Stacatto, so scratch Cosaint off the list, simply because they assault my sensibilities. They’re probably great guns but I’ve a budget to consider.

I was also considering the new 5″ Bul Armory TAC or Tac Pro, in 5″ length. The Tac Pro is only a bit lessexpensive than the the Cosaint COS21. The Tac is $2250. Both are out of budget, sadly. As well, Bul Armory only have 1-year limited warranties on their guns, so no more Bul Armory guns for me.

I may do another Alpha Foxtrot – they’ve two new double-stacked 1911s that are in the pipeline: the Spatha and the Romulus. The Spatha appears to be a double-stacked 1911 that is solid-framed, and the Romulus appears to be a legit 2011. The con for Alpha Foxtrot is that, like Bul Armory, they only have limited 1-year warranties, but I love their guns, so I may be willing to overlook the warranty. Of the two (pictured below), the Romulus has more of my interest. Prices aren’t listed yet but I’m thinking they’ll be in the mid $1000s.

There’s the Stealth Arms Platypus. The Platypus’ pro is that it’s highly configurable. It’s cons are that it’s not really a 2011 and that most folks have them.

The Springfield Armory Prodigy is something I’ve always desired, and it has a full warranty, will take standard 2011 mags, has a very robust optics mounting system, has a great grip module, and is very flat-shooting. Yes, they initially had problems. I haven’t heard of any recent complaints, though.

The GP Arms Patriot is not new (they also have the 3.1″ Forza, which is very like the Bul Armory SAS II UL and is priced at $1590) but is very configurable. They are a tad bit pricey, though…they start at $1950.

Outside of 1911s/2011s, I’ve been curious about the Glock 43X and Glock 48. Hell, I can get both of them, in MOS configuration.

Of them all, the 5″ Prodigy is the stand-out option. I can even get the variant that has 3 mags and the HEX optic, which will certainly already have the optic mounting plate, and it will still be reasonably priced (at around $1400). Plus, I already have two Checkmate mags and a 17 round Duramag.

I’ll also keep watch on what else is released this year, as I’ve until next spring to decide.

Can the Alpha Foxtrot S15 Be Used With PSA’s Dagger Micro 15-Round Mags?

Can the Alpha Foxtrot S15 use the PSA Dagger Micro 15-Round Mag?

I’ve asked that question on at least one 1911 forum and was told that it wouldn’t work, but no one has tried.

I’m not interested in hearing assumptions.

It either will latch or it won’t

It will either release and drop free from the mag well effortlessly or not.

It should feed properly.

The Alpha Foxtrot S15 is built around Shield Arms S15 15-round mags, which are 3rd-Party mags made for the Glock 43X and the Glock 48. Because of that, the AF-S15 can also use the OEM G43X and G48 mags, although those particular mags have a 10-round capacity.

In the quest to check for yet another source of mags for the AF-S15, I’ve ordered one PSA Dagger Micro magazine, which has a 15-round capacity and can be used with G43Xs and G48s.

I saw that PSA had the mags in stock. I ordered a blem mag with the Micro Slick finish, for $29. Shipping was $9.99 and the total was $40.72 (shipping is always a lot and I didn’t need anything else from PSA).

Note that the Dagger Micro mags are polymer-coated, even around the mag latch area, which means that this will be a wear point, as the AF-S15 uses a metal mag catch within it’s mag well. I’m also curious if the mag will slide easily into and out of the mag well, and also unlatch without hangup issues.

I ordered one mag to test, initially, as I didn’t want to order 2-3 only to find that they won’t work.

The test results will determine if I order more (specifically for range use).

I’ll share my findings with the rest of the world, as I keep seeing folks asking this question or outright verbally assuming that the Dagger Micro mags will work with this gun.
